Professor Tony Walker
Tony is Professor of Cell Biology within the School of Life Sciences, Pharmacy and Chemistry at Kingston University, London. He has been working on the cell biology of schistosome parasites and their snail intermediate hosts at Kingston for over 20 years. His current research aims to better understand the basic biology of schistosomes, their development, and how they interact with their mammalian hosts. By employing techniques such as protein kinase assay, confocal laser scanning microscopy/immunohistochemistry, RNA interference, and phenotype assays his research seeks to define the fundamental mechanisms by which cellular proteins regulate schistosome form and function. The research could result in the identification of candidate proteins for the development of novel anti-schistosome drugs.
