Jorge Cano's main research interest is the investigation of the spatial distribution of infectious diseases, particularly vector-borne diseases, and their underlying risk factors using a combination of multidisciplinary approaches that include epidemiology, statistics, geostatistics, cartography and remote sensing science. His previous experience includes studies on spatial distribution and monitoring of control interventions of malaria and sleeping sickness, and more recently lymphatic filariasis and podoconosis. He has also taken part in large epidemiological studies to develop a global atlas of leishmaniasis, and more recently a global atlas of lymphatic filariasis within the Global Atlas of Helminth Infections project at the LSHTM.
